8th grade: Today in Language Arts-Reader's Workshop

Students received their graded Reading Folders back and read for 15 minutes. We listened to a student BookShare and then students took turns reading FFA aloud. The last fifteen minutes of class were devoted to the vocabulary/spelling quiz.

7th grade: Today in Language Arts-Writer's Workshop

Students received their graded Reading Folders back and read for 15 minutes. We listened to a student give a BookShare. Ms. Black led the children through another memoir and the students identified the aspects of this piece of writing that made it an interesting memoir. Students then took the vocabulary quiz.

Today in 7th and 8th Language Arts

As a treat for good behavior during reading time, students were given a "Reading Day" (This was requested by students as a classroom reward.)

Students submitted their reading folders and then spent the hour reading.

The Vocabulary Quiz is on Friday, February 27th. Students are expected to know the spelling and definition of each word.

7th Grade: Today in Language Arts - Memoirs

We read for 15 minutes and listened to a bookshare at the beginning of class. Students turned in their Vocab homework and they will use their vocab worksheets to study for Friday's quiz. Students took notes on the process of writing a memoir and did a brainstorming exercise where they wrote down the positive and negative significant events in their lives.

The students will be going on a field trip on Wednesday so they will not have Language Arts class tomorrow.

NEW TUTORIAL TIME!

Hello Everyone!
For Term 3, I will be offering TWO tutorial times to accommodate students who need to attend the Math/Science CRCT tutorial and for students who can't meet either before or after school. The days and times are:

Monday: 8-8:30
Tuesdays: 4-4:30 (although sometimes we WILL be going until 4:45, depending on student needs).

Ms. Black, my student teacher, will also be available to help students some Tuesday afternoons for the next few weeks. Please take advantage of having TWO teachers in tutorial to help the students and send your children if they need help.

Today we read for 15 minutes and listened to a bookshare. I gave students another day to complete their weekly reading questions since everyone went on the field trip on Wednesday. Students had the opportunity to make up any literature circle discussions their group missed. Students who completed all of their discussions used the time to put final touches on their literature circle project.

Today we read for 15 minutes and listened to a bookshare. The students continued working in their Literature Circles and they were given an extended deadline for the final project because the 8th graders will be gone for a field trip on Wednesday.

Students read for 15 minutes. We did not have a BookShare today. Students worked in groups to complete their comma worksheet review. If the worksheet was not completed in class, students need to have it completed by Tuesday. There will be a quiz this Tuesday on commas.

Today students turned in their weekly reading questions and listened to a bookshare. They continued working in their literature circles. The Discussion Directors did their presentations today and many of them had some introspective and thoughtful questions.

7th Grade: Today in Language Arts - Grammar

Students turned in their weekly reading questions at the beginning of class. We continued our grammar lesson by finishing our notes on commas and we did in-class practice. The students had an opportunity to teach their peers.

Homework: Friday is the last day students can turn in their Persuasive Essays for partial credit.

Today the 7th and 8th graders went on a field trip to the King Tut exhibit at the Atlanta Civic Center.

Today we read for 15 minutes and listened to a bookshare. The students turned in their essays and I listened to feedback from the kids regarding the assignment and persuasive writing lessons. We finished class with a new grammar lesson on "commas." A lot of the students had some prior knowledge that they were able to contribute to the lesson

The students submitted their weekly reading questions. We reviewed the Literature Circle rubric and discussed what was necessary to earn the full points. The Summarizer in each group gave their presentations and facilitated the discussions. Some of the groups did very well. Other groups did not use their time wisely and will be spending their lunchtime on Monday working in class.

8th Grade - Today in Language Arts - Field Trip

Today we went on a field trip to Fernbank Museum. We completed a scavenger hunt and watched the IMAX film, "The Greatest Places." The students were well behaved and they had a great time.

Today, the 7th graders had two hours of Social Studies and two hours of Science because we chaperoned the 8th grade field trip.

Today we read for 15 minutes and listened to a bookshare. We did a persuasive writing activity where we analyzed the persuasive components in some of the Superbowl ads. The students did a great job identifying Ethos, Logos, Pathos, and RAFTS.
